CALPELRALearn

Request For Proposals Issued

CALPELRA has issued its first Request For Proposals for CALPELRALearn programs, seeking to develop a pool of trainers and firms that can develop and present training on employment law and human resources topics.

Training Topics

The Request For Proposals seeks trainers in one or more of these subjects:

  • Litigating, mediating, arbitrating, and/or preventing employment law claims against public agencies;

  • Disability discrimination, the interactive process, and reasonable accommodation;

  • Layoffs and reductions in force;

  • Conducting investigations;

  • Managing leaves of absence;

  • Costing for human resources;

  • Wage and hour issues;

  • Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) issues;

  • Intersection of workers' compensation, industrial disability, the interactive process, and reasonable accommodation;

  • Peace Officer and Firefighter Bills of Rights; and/or;

  • Classification and compensation studies and plans.

Year-Round Training From A Variety Of Experts

With CALPELRALearn, CALPELRA adds to the professional training opportunities it already provides through its Annual Conference and Labor Relations Academy. Through CALPELRALearn, CALPELRA will offer year-round training for labor relations and human resources professionals in areas not covered by CALPELRA’s current Labor Relations Academy, including emerging issues in the employee and labor relations arenas, as well as broader human resources issues. The training will be presented by a variety of labor relations and human resources experts from around the state. CALPELRA plans to begin offering CALPELRALearn training during the 2010 – 2011 fiscal year.

CALPELRALearn training will reach an audience of public agencies at all levels of government throughout California. CALPELRA training participants work in city, county, and state government, school districts, state colleges and universities, trial courts, and special districts. A diverse group, they share a common interest in learning more about federal and state employment law applied specifically to California employers, human resource best practices, and professional development for HR specialists.

CALPELRA has been providing labor relations and employment related training for 35 years. More than 15 years ago, CALPELRA began offering CALPELRA’s Labor Relations Academy, and the Academy has trained thousands of labor relations professionals. CALPELRA’s Labor Relations Academy has become increasingly sophisticated, and a CALPELRA Academy Masters certification (CLRM) is now a preferred or desired job qualification.
